2027 Mid-Atlantic Alt.Ctrl Symposium
Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Mid-Atlantic Alt.Ctrl Symposium (MAACS)! Planned for January 5, 2027 in National Harbor, MD, this one-day event seeks to bring together scholars, practitioners, and community members working with alternative game controllers to discuss current topics in the field. MAACS is envisioned as a novel space within which scholarly and independent practitioners within and adjacent to the space of alternative game controller creation can meet and discuss existing and emerging topics in the field. Drawing on the rich community of practice surrounding this topic, this event provides a space from greater cross-collaboration and discussion between scholars and other practitioners working in the alt.ctrl field. The event is timed to occur two days before Super MAGFest, home to one of the largest alt.ctrl showcases in the world, and is thus well-timed to support participation by members of the community who are likely to be traveling to the area during that week to showcase their works at the MAGFest Indie Arcade.
The inaugural version of MAACS is planned as a one-day symposium featuring talks by scholars and practitioners and no published proceedings. This event is planned to occur on the Tuesday before Super MAGFest in National Harbor, MD to facilitate participation from community members. Submission types and further details are listed in the Call for Participation.
